For years, Christina had lived with lipedema — and with legs that often felt heavy, tender and uncomfortable.
Bruises appeared easily. Certain areas felt unusually firm beneath the skin. And over time, the condition began affecting more than just how her legs felt.
She stopped wanting to wear shorts. She hid her legs under loose clothes. Eventually, she became so uncomfortable with her own body that she would turn off the bedroom light before changing in front of her husband.
And like many women living with lipedema, one question kept bothering her:
Why could her legs feel increasingly uncomfortable over the years — even when she was doing everything she thought she was supposed to do?
That was the question at the center of a conversation with Dr. Karol Green about lipedema and the changes women often notice over time.
During the conversation, Dr. Green explained:
Dr. Green:
“Lipedema is not simply the same thing as ordinary weight gain.”
“Women often describe a recognizable combination of symptoms, including tenderness, easy bruising, heaviness and areas beneath the skin that can feel unusually firm.”
“And those experiences can vary considerably from one woman to another.”
“That is one reason it's important to look at lipedema as a condition in its own right rather than assuming every change in the legs is simply about body weight.”
Dr. Green:
“Yes — but not the part most people think of.”
“The part that caught our attention wasn't the sweet pineapple flesh most people eat.”
“It was the dense core in the center — the part almost everyone throws away.”
“We came across the pineapple core while looking more broadly at foods, ingredients and everyday approaches that frequently come up in conversations about wellness.”
“But here's the part people often miss:”
“The pineapple itself wasn't the whole story.”
Dr. Green:
“What interested us was how often people focus on the obvious part of a food while overlooking what is normally discarded.”
“That led to a much broader conversation about the pineapple core, how it is used, and why it has attracted so much curiosity.”
“There were also other details that surprised us — including how different ingredients are prepared and why the form and timing can matter in everyday routines.”
“I recorded a short presentation explaining what caught our attention about the pineapple core, how this conversation developed, and what women living with lipedema may want to consider when learning about different wellness approaches.”
“If you already know you have lipedema, you can watch the explanation below.”
